A top aide to New York City (NYC) Mayor Eric Adams admitted that the influx of illegal aliens being bused from southern states is destroying the Big Apple. The same aide disclosed that the issue will definitely be a huge pitfall for the Democratic leader.
Audio released by Project Veritas showed Chris Baugh, an Advance Team Aide for Adams, admitting that Republican governors in the south – in particular Texas Gov. Greg Abbott – had made a significant impact on NYC’s government by busing illegal aliens there.
“There was talk about us just limiting the number of migrants we would accept, and I’m glad we didn’t do it that way,” he told the Project Veritas journalist. “But I still think that what Abbott was doing has proven effective. Like, it’s flooded our system.”
“We have more people in social services than we’ve ever have – potentially ever in history. So it’s effectively demonstrating the strain.”
Abbott’s decision to transport illegal aliens crossing into the U.S. via Texas to blue cities in the north sought to make President Joe Biden and the rest of the Democratic Party aware of the crisis at the country’s border with Mexico. Other red states in the south, such as Florida and Arizona, followed suit.
According to Baugh, the influx of illegal aliens being bused to the Big Apple could prove to be Adams’ undoing.
“It’s going to be the biggest test of his political career, which is kind of wild – being that he has been in office for nine or 10 months now. This could define his entire time in office,” said the aide. (Related: NYC Mayor declares ’emergency’ over migrants, 12 months after campaigning for more migrants.)
“If he gets this right, if we can weather the surge of migrants and commit to … ‘right to shelter laws’ and all of that, he is going to look like a hero. If [it] goes the other direction, Abbott and [Florida Gov.] Ron DeSantis are going to be like, ‘The Democrats don’t practice what they preach’ and it’s going to be a huge pitfall for him.”
Baugh elaborated that the migrant crisis in the Big Apple is resonating upward and impacting the Biden administration. The GOP is on the offensive against the Democrats by turning the migrant crisis against the latter, he added.
“Frankly, I don’t know how much Biden is going to appreciate having a mayor be like ‘Hey, you owe blue cities money because of this migrant crisis.’ Eventually, that’s going to make Biden look bad. We’re a month out [until] midterms and he is not going to like that,” the aide said.
“It’s a very perilous situation for him, and I don’t know [if] Adams is capable enough to navigate it.”
According to Baugh, the optics of the migrant crisis are bad for both Biden and Adams.
“I think Biden saying ‘Alright, I’m just [going to] give money to NYC because they can’t take care of these migrants’ is just [going to] be bad politics for him.”
Ultimately, Baugh pointed out that the blame will ultimately rest on Adams and the Big Apple’s far-left government. The aide added that he does not necessarily believe they will be up to the challenge.
“Emergency [federal] money should be going to Florida and Puerto Rico before it should be coming here [to NYC]. Ultimately, it’s us struggling to comply with our own laws – our ‘right to shelter’ laws and other stuff.”
